On the Mekong to Luang Prabang

Daily departure from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang, minimum 2 persons, group tour
DAY 1 CHIANG MAI - CHIANG KHONG
In the morning pick up from the hotel, airport or railway station in Chiang Mai. Leave the city and heading to the north. Do some brief stops on route, such as at the hot springs in Mae Kachan and at the beautiful Wat Rong Khun (better known as white temple) near Chiang Rai. Finally reach the border town of Chiang Khong and spend the night at the hotel right on the banks of the Mekong River.
DAY 2 CHIANG KHONG - HOUAY XAI - PAK BENG B/L
In the morning at approx. time 08.00 pick up from the hotel and short transfer to the border crossing (Friendship Bridge). First get your exit stamp in your passport at the Thai immigration. Here the crew of the river cruise will wait for you. A shuttle bus will bring you against a small fee to the other side of the bridge. Here do your entrance and visa formalities at the Lao immigration. After the paperwork is done, you will be driven to the main pier. Here board the boat and enjoy a scenic river trip down the Mekong with some brief stops. Lunch will be served on route. Late afternoon arrival in Pak Beng for overnight.
DAY 3 PAK BENG - LUANG PRABANG B/L
In the early morning we do recommend to take a stroll over the local market, where people from the nearby hill tribe villages trade and sell all kind of goods (vegetables, fruits, handicrafts etc.). After your breakfast board the boat again and continue your cruise down the Mekong. On route do other brief stops at a rural village and at the holy Tum Ting Caves near the junction of Ou River. Later in the afternoon reach Luang Prabang. Transfer to your booked hotel and end of service.
REMARKS/FLEXIBILITY:
- Visa for Laos available on arrival at the border against a fee of US$ 40.- (bring passport pictures with you!).
- Start of the tour is also possible from Chiang Rai.
- This package is possible v.v. with start in Luang Prabang and end in Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai as well.
- Additional nights before the tour in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai and/or after the tour in Luang Prabang can be booked with us.
