DAY 1 CHIANG MAI - BAAN PA KAO LAM (KAREN HILL TRIBE VILLAGE) L/D
In the morning at approx. time 09.00 pick up from the hotel (on a private tour also possible from the airport or railway station). Travel by pick up truck for about 45 minutes to the local countryside market in Mae Malai. Observe the local people trading their goods and chance for an exotic snack. Next stop follows at Mokfa Waterfall with chance for a cool shower. Travel on by pick up truck along some winding roads towards a Karen hill tribe village. Here the tour guide will show his skill in preparing the lunch for you. Afterwards start your trek for approx. 3,5 hours through the green wilderness until you reach Baan Pa Kao Lam, another Karen hill tribe village. Some time to relax or take a stroll around the village to observe the daily life of these friendly people here in the wilderness. Later enjoy the camp fire and dinner. Overnight in a simple hut at this remote village (today's total trekking approx. 3,5 hours).
DAY 2 BAAN PA KAO LAM (KAREN HILL TRIBE VILLAGE) - CHIANG MAI B/L
After breakfast you got the chance to see some elephants and feed them as well (no riding!). Go on and continue trekking for approx. one hour through the green wilderness along the Mae Taeng River and starting point of your rafting trip. Enjoy approx. 2,5 hours on a bamboo raft down the river and it can get wet while passing some rapids. On route take a break at the Lahu hill tribe village of Baan Pong Ngan. Spend some time in the village and then board the bamboo raft again until you reach the Shan village of Baan Sob Kai. Here you will get your lunch. Then it is time for your trip back to Chiang Mai by pick up truck. Arrival in the northern capital will be by late afternoon. Transfer to the hotel, airport or railway station, which does depend on your further schedule (today's total trekking approx. 1 hour).
REMARKS:
- A small rucksack and a water canteen can be provided (if you need it, please let us know at the time of booking).
- During the cool season (Nov. to Feb,) we do recommend to bring a long sleeves sweater or a jacket.
- A mosquito repellent and a torch can be very useful as well. Otherwise light clothes and good walking shoes are recommended to wear during the trek.
- Accommodation in Chiang Mai before and/or after the tour can be booked with us as well.
PRICE INCLUDES:
All excursions as mentioned in the itinerary above, all transfers with a pick up truck, accommodation is very basic in a simple hut (with outside toilet) of bamboo and wood at a Karen hill tribe village and will consist of a thin mattress with a sleeping bag or blankets. English speaking tour guide, all meals as shown in the itinerary (B = breakfast, L = lunch and D = dinner)
