Tour around Chiang Mai #CNX-919
This day tour gets the focus on major highlights and sights outside of the northern capital. Leave the city behind and relax while cruising on a boat of the Ping River. Enjoy the river scene, old teak houses and rural greenery. Explore some other attractions like a hilltop temple, the ruins of a former Mon city, Royal Rajapruek Park and a forest temple with a tunnel.
Available as a private tour, minimum 2 persons, daily from/to Chiang Mai
Pick up from the hotel in Chiang Mai by our tour guide and driver will be at time 08.30 and you leave the city behind. A bit south of downtown Chiang Mai on a small hill top you will first visit Wat Doi Kham. The large panoramic terrace offers a great view of the Royal Rajapruek Park, as well as the city of Chiang Mai and the countryside around.
Afterwards, explore Royal Park Rajapruek. This 200-hectare park showcases Thailand's diverse flora and fauna, as well as magnificent architectural structures. Among other things, you will stroll through gardens with international themes, discover rare flowers in the Orchid Pavilion and admire the beautiful Ho Kham Luang Royal Pavilion.
A little bit later you take a brief stop at the ruins and temples of the former Mon city Wiang Kum Kam from the 12th century. An OPTIONAL short ride in a horse-drawn carriage can still be booked on site.
Lunch break at a local restaurant on route.
Then continue to the boat pier at Wat Chai Mongkol. Here you will board a longtail boat. Relax for a while, carried along the waters of the Ping River and leave the city behind you. Enjoy the river scenery with teakwood houses and rural greenery. Finally arrive at the local farmer house, where this boat trip does end.
Today's final stop is the enchanting forest temple Wat Umong at the foot of Doi Suthep. Unlike typical concrete temples, Wat Umong is surrounded by a natural environment with tall trees, a cool stream, a fishpond and wooden bridges. This atmosphere offers visitors a welcome change from the conventional temple experience. The highlight of Wat Umong is its intricate tunnel system. Afterward, you can stretch your legs in the neighboring Baan Kang Wat, a beautifully and uniquely designed artists' village with owner-operated cafes, workshops, craft shops, studios, and galleries. A quiet, shady spot that feels like an oasis of calm far from the hustle and bustle.
