DAY 1 CHIANG MAI - MAE HONG SON L

Early morning pick up from the hotel and leave Chiang Mai. Full day tour on some steep and winding roads through the mountain wilderness to Mae Hong Son with some stops on route, such as at an orchid farm in Mae Rim. Later Pai Canyon does invite you for a short walk. Later reach the village of Soppong. Here you will do a side trip to spectacular Lot Cave. If the water level in the small river does allow, then you will cross the cave on a bamboo raft and take a short walk back. Travel on along the mountains, passing some Lisu- and Lahu hill tribe villages and chance to stop at one of them. Before you reach Mae Hong Son take a walk over Su Tong Pae bamboo bridge through the rice fields. Overnight in Mae Hong Son.

DAY 2 MAE HONG SON B/L

In the morning first take a stroll over the bustling local market of the provincial town. Then enjoy a scenic boat trip on the Pai River to the Burmese border area and visit a village of the Paduang (better known as "longnecks"). Some women of this tribe elongate their necks by adding brass neck rings annually from an early age. After lunch go on and visit two of the colorful Shan temples, Wat Doi Kong Moo on a hill top, which offers great views and Wat Jong Klang at the city lake. In the afternoon you got some time to relax at the nice resort or just do another side trip, for example to Phasua Waterfall and the mountain top village Ban Rak Thai. Our tour guide and driver are ready to serve you. Spend another night in Mae Hong Son.

DAY 3 MAE HONG SON - CHIANG MAI B/L

After breakfast leave Mae Hong Son in southern direction until you reach Khun Yuam. Here you got the chance for a visit at Shan Cultural- and War Museum. Then you continue through the mountain wilderness again, passing Karen- and Hmong hill tribe villages. Take a coffee- or tea break at one of them. From Mae Chaem you will pass through Doi Inthanon National Park and do some more stops, such as at the Hmong Hill Tribe Street Market and at picturesque waterfalls. Finally reach the valley of the Ping River and arrive Chiang Mai by early evening. Transfer to the booked hotel, airport or railway station, depends on your further schedule.

REMARKS/FLEXIBILITY:

Instead of overland travel both ways it is possible to fly one way (either to Mae Hong Son on the 1st day or back to Chiang Mai on the 3rd day). If you wish to do so, please let us know at the time of booking!
If you would like to spend more time at Doi Inthanon Nationalpark, then we recommend to spend an extra night in Mae Chaem.
Accommodation in Chiang Mai before and/or after this package can be booked with us as well.
