Trekking in Huai Nam Dang

DAY 1 CHIANG MAI - BAAN MAE JOK (KAREN VILLAGE) L/D
In the morning at approx. time 09.00 pick up from the hotel (on a private tour also from the airport or railway station possible). Travel by pick up truck for about 45 minutes to the local countryside market in Mae Malai. Observe the local people trading their goods, but also a chance to do some shopping and maybe taste some exotic snacks before you start your trek. Drive on to Mokfa Waterfall. Here take the opportunity for a cool bath. Continue by road and have your lunch break at the village of Baan Pang Lun. Go on for about half an hour along some more winding roads to Huai Nam Dang National Park and from here you will start walking for approx. two hours to reach the Karen hill tribe village of Ban Mae Jok. Time to explore the village and have some chats with the locals. Later have dinner and spend time at the camp fire. Stay overnight in a simple hut at this hill tribe village (today's trekking will be approx. 2 hours).
DAY 2 BAAN MAE JOK (KAREN VILLAGE) - BAAN PA KAO LAM (KAREN VILLAGE) B/L/D
After breakfast continue trekking through the green wilderness. It will take you about 3,5 to 4 hours, mostly under the shady of green trees. In the middle of the jungle your tour guide will show his cookery skills and prepare the picnic lunch. Take another short hike to the Karen hill tribe village of Baan Pa Kao Lam. Time again to observe the simple life style of the people here in the wilderness. Then later you will meet the elephant family. Time to hang around observing natural behavior of elephants. Chance to feed the elephant and learn about taking care them (no riding!). Then it is time for dinner and enjoy your time at the camp fire. Spend another night in a simple hut of a Karen hill tribe village (today's total trekking will be approx. 4 hours).
DAY 3 BAAN PA KAO LAM (KAREN HILL VILLAGE) - CHIANG MAI B/L
After a filling breakfast walk to the river and board the bamboo raft. Today you will experience some exciting bamboo rafting down the Mae Taeng River for approx. 3,5 hours with a visit on route to a Lahu hill tribe village. Here enjoy beautiful and idyllic landscapes along the river. After passing some rapids (it might get a bit wet sometimes!) finally reach the Shan village of Baan Sob Kai for the lunch break. Afterwards the pick up truck will bring you back to Chiang Mai. Arrival there will be by late afternoon. Transfer to the hotel, airport or railway station, depends on your further schedule.
REMARKS:
- A small rucksack and a water canteen can be provided (if you need it, please let us know at the time of booking).
- During the cool season (Nov. to Feb.) we do recommend to bring a long sleeves sweater or a jacket. A mosquito repellent and a torch can be very useful as well. Otherwise light clothes and good walking shoes are recommended to wear during the trek.
- Accommodation in Chiang Mai before and/or after the tour can be booked with us as well.
PRICE INCLUDES:
All excursions as mentioned in the itinerary above, all transfers with a pick up truck, accommodation is very basic in a simple hut (with outside toilet) of bamboo and wood at Karen hill tribe villages and will consist of a thin mattress with a sleeping bag or blankets. English speaking tour guide, all meals as shown in the program (B = breakfast, L = lunch and D = dinner),
